About Ms Chocolatier - Chef Janie Romo

Picture
My name is Juanita (Janie) Romo, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America from Hyde Park , New York . I graduated with a Baking and Pastry Associates Degree in April of 2007.

My interest in baking stemmed back from attending Wilton Cake Decorating Classes at JC Penney in 1980. I attended classes with my cousin, Lola and we had plans to open up our own business. Years passed as we began buying tools, pans, and many other baking gadgets that would help us launch our business. Unfortunately, my cousin Lola traveled to Mexico during that time of planning and died in a tragic accident along with my dream.

I was hired by the City of San Antonio at the Parks and Recreation Center and continued working and raising my son. I worked at the Police Department Headquarters for 15 years.

I attended classes at San Antonio College not having any idea of what I wanted to study about or do with my life. A friend of mine suggested I read a book about CIA, since this is a personal interest of his in the future. I took his advice and discovered that I had no doubt on what my goal would be.

I was convinced by my son to attend CIA but I knew I could not leave until he graduated with his Master's Degree . I retired from the City of San Antonio in April of 2005 after fulfilling twenty plus years with the department. My son graduated with his degree on May 7, 2005 and I started school May 9, 2005.

As of today, I have returned to San Antonio with renewed faith that I would begin a new chapter in my life that will lead me to the goal of sharing my gourmet treats with you. This new adventure is an exciting one for me knowing that I will be fulfilling my true passion.
